Choice for Happiness

I have been feeling this all day so I guess I might as well write about it.

This morning while doing my morning posting, I came across a quote that I really like to try to live by:

“Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it”. – Groucho Marx

I am sure many of you feel the same way that I do about this quote. I realize it is my choice as to how I am going to feel and let things (events, people, words, memories, etc) make me feel each and every second of each and every day. That is why God gave us, each and everyone, free will. It is your choice whether or not you will let something or someone steal your joy.

We should all know that we are capable of doing anything we set our minds to do. In any area of our lives we have the choice as to if we will be happy in it or not. From school to work, to our relationships, to our spiritual lives, to our health, to ANY area in our lives we have that choice.

We can also choose whether or not we will strive to make our dreams come true. This also applies to every area of our lives. Do you have dreams for your life? Sure you do! Are you striving to make those dreams come true? I hope so! When you realize that it is YOUR choice as to whether or not YOU make those dreams come true, YOU can begin to make things happen.

I can promise you that you will run into disappointments and curves that will make you want to just stop and go the other way at many different times in your journey. You have to remember though it is YOUR choice what you do when that happens. Do you quit, tuck tail and run away? Or do you hold your head high, learn from your mistakes and keep on going?

It is YOUR choice. Happiness or misery.

Which will it be for YOU?

Dennis, it is hard to do at times but it is possible. It took me many years to realize that it is truly my choice. Thank you so much for stopping by. I do hope you will come again.

I love this post! Our joy is ours and although there are things that stump us, we can take a deep breathe and “find our joy” again!

Wow Tammie! Did you write this for me? 😉

It seems I have started a journey as of late and part of this journey has been a cleansing of pent up emotions. Some of which have lead to a saddened state lately.
But this quote reminds me I can control the outcome — I read a quote today that seems to fit here:
“But if you can plant yourself in STILLNESS long enough, you will, in time, experience the TRUTH that everything (BOTH uncomfortable and lovely) does EVENTUALLY pass.

Thank you so much Robert. That is what makes it worth it. To hear that someone is blessed by the things I try to share is exactly why I do it. I am so glad you have joined FN. Now you don’t have to talk to yourself to remain positve. This family is here to do just that for you.

Thank you for your comment Nancy and I just want to tellyou that I belive ther is a time for everything. There is a time for sorrow but when that time comes we should always remember then comes the morning when we can rejoice in what we have been left with. Many Blessings to you Lady. You sure have brought many blessings to me and many others.

I agree with that Shirley and post it daily to others. I do believe that if it is the day that He hath made and we Believe and Receive His Word as Truth; there is no other way to be except to be Glad and Rejoice in it. Thank you for stopping by. You are such a blessing to me.

  9. Thanks Tammie for this post…I always say…”This is the day the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it”. And you are so right, it is our choice how we will respond to any situation or circumstance.

  10. Thanks Tammie for a wonderful post and the timing couldn’t have been any better – you are right it’s our choice how we are going to deal with things, if our day is going to be positive or negative – thanks I needed the reminder of how much I have to be thankful for and that I can just set here and forget how far I have come – got to move on and forward.

Great post Tammie, Thanks for sharing. That is so very true, we wake up deciding which path to choose in regards to being happy or sad, and how we do with things as they happen in our lives to either allow them to overtake us or chose them to be stepping stones for greater things.

    Thanks for sharing

I totally agree Linda. Jesus will lead us in the right direction every time. If we choose to believe His Word we can rest and be happy in all that we do.

  15. Tammie Perry says:

You are so right Lynn. It is a shame it takes so long for some of us to figure that out. It sure took me a long time.

  18. Powerful message Tammie! There is always going to be a word, a decision or an action, that we will need to make a choice, as to how we will allow it to affect our lives. If we keep our eyes and our hearts fixed on Jesus, we will always make the right decision.
